Commissioner Pushes for Better CCTV Coverage in Nagpur Police Stations

Nagpur, India: All police stations in the Nagpur division will soon have proper CCTV surveillance, said Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari at a meeting on Thursday. She also stressed that the public should know about this step for better transparency.

The meeting included key officials like Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh Poddar, Additional District Collector Tushar Thombre, Assistant Commissioner Pradip Kulkarni, and other District Collectors and DCPs.

Currently, 151 police stations in the division have CCTV cameras, but 54 out of 1,775 cameras are not working. An expert team has been hired to fix and maintain these cameras.

Nagpur city has the most police stations under CCTV coverage with 33 stations and 495 cameras. Other districts are as follows:

  • Nagpur Rural: 22 stations with 220 cameras
  • Bhandara: 17 stations with 196 cameras
  • Wardha: 19 stations with 190 cameras
  • Gadchiroli and Gondia: 16 stations each

The Commissioner has ordered the quick repair of the faulty cameras and plans to expand CCTV coverage to all police stations. She also asked DCPs to ensure that all systems stay functional.

This initiative aims to improve security, accountability, and public confidence in law enforcement.
