Common illnesses among children during the monsoon
If appropriate precautions aren't taken, the rainy season can have a serious negative influence on children's health and result in a variety of ailments. For this reason, it's crucial to be on guard during the monsoon to ensure their safety.
The monsoon season is one to treasure because it provides cool relief from the intense heat, but it also presents a plethora of difficulties for parents who must worry about the well-being and safety of their kids.
Dr Amar Bhise, Consultant - PICU, says, “During the rainy season, kids are more likely to fall ill due to environmental changes like increased humidity, moisture, and atmospheric pressure. The dampness in the air creates perfect weather for germs, viruses, and bacteria to thrive. This can increase their chances of health problems like the common cold, cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue, chest pain, skin problems, conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal issues, fungal infections, flu, malaria, dengue, chikungunya and typhoid.”
The most common illness faced during the monsoon are- Thyroid, Gastrointestinal issues, Dengue and Malaria, Chikungunya
Advice on how to keep your children safe during the monsoon-
1. Don't go outside without dousing your children in insect repellent to protect them from dangerous mosquitoes.
Promote a nutritious diet that fortifies their immune system by providing an abundance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
2. To provide ventilation and shield your kids from the cold, dress them in appropriate, airy fabrics like cotton.
3. Tell your children to always wash their hands with soap and sanitizer before consuming any food or after using the restroom in order to practice proper hygiene.
4. Encourage kids to drink one or two liters of water a day to stay hydrated, especially during the monsoon.
