Crime Branch Busts Gang Selling Fake Apple Products Worth ₹50 Lakh; 3 Accused Arrested
Nagpur, India: In a major action, the Nagpur Crime Branch Unit 5 has busted a gang involved in selling fake products under the Apple brand. The operation came to light after the police received a tip-off about people selling fake Apple merchandise. Acting swiftly, the authorities carried out a planned raid and caught three suspects red-handed.
On March 10, the accused, Jemuuddin Nizamkhan Saifi, went to sell fake AirPods and Apple-branded watches. However, he was unaware that the location he chose was the head office of the Nagpur Crime Branch, situated at the ballast mine. Saifi was offering AirPods worth ₹26,000 for just ₹2,600 and an Apple Watch worth ₹40,000 for ₹4,000. This raised suspicion among the police, and when questioned, he claimed that the goods had been seized by customs and that he was going door to door to sell them at a low price.
However, when confronted, Jemuuddin Nizamkhan Saifi told the police that he, along with his two associates, had arrived in Nagpur from Delhi 10 days ago and were staying at a guest house in the Mominpura compound.
The police then arrested his two accomplices, Naeem Noor Mohammad Khan and Mohsin Shaikin Ahmed Malik. Authorities have seized 167 AirPods Pro Wireless Charging Cases and 13 Series 9 Watches from the arrested accused, with a total market value estimated at ₹50 lakh.
The accused were using the Apple logo, stickers, and name to deceive customers into thinking they were buying genuine products. These fake items were being sold at high prices, cheating customers.
The police have arrested all three individuals, and a case has been filed against them at the Mankapur police station. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source of these counterfeit products and to identify any other members involved in the gang.
