Crime Branch Cracks Eight Chain-Snatching Cases, Arrests Two

Nagpur, India: In a significant breakthrough, the Crime Branch has arrested two gang members involved in multiple chain-snatching and vehicle theft cases. The police have successfully detected eight criminal cases linked to the accused and recovered stolen property, including a Hero Destiny moped (MH-40/CN-6014), a TVS Jupiter scooter (MH-49/CG-7346), two cellphones, and 5.8 tolas of gold, all valued at around Rs 6 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nitesh Sudhakarrao Purshottamwar (32), a resident of Kapsi, and Nehal alias Sunny Ramkrupal Malik (26), a resident of Lane No. 39, Vinodbhave Nagar. However, two accomplices, Abhi alias Kallu Vinayak Meshram (26) from Kumbhar Toli, Nandanvan, and Mahesh Shashikant Iraskar (26) from Deshpande Layout, are still on the run.

The gang recently targeted 55-year-old Kapila Karan Ramteke from Pannase Colony, Jaitala, snatching her gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh during her morning walk near Ashtavinayak Nagar on September 7. Following a tip-off, Crime Branch Unit-5 launched an operation, leading to the arrest of Nitesh and Nehal. The gang was responsible for eight robberies across various areas, including Sadar, Sitabuldi, Sakkardara, Rana Pratap Nagar, and a theft in Nandanvan.

The operation was led by PI Rahul Shire, PSI Rahul Rothe, PSI Anil Ingole, and PSI Zingre, under the supervision of senior Crime Branch officials. Efforts to locate and arrest the remaining two suspects are ongoing.
