Critics Slam Nadaaniyan as ‘Shallow Rom-Com,’ Viewers Left Unimpressed

The recently released Netflix film Nadaaniyan, starring newcomers Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, has received mixed responses from both audiences and critics. While some viewers appreciated the performances, many found the rom-com lacking in originality and depth.
Audience Reactions
Social media users, especially on Twitter, shared divided opinions on Nadaaniyan. Some praised the fresh pairing, with one user commenting, "Ibrahim Ali Khan makes a decent debut, and Khushi Kapoor continues to improve. Nadaaniyan was a fun watch!"
However, others were not impressed, calling the film predictable and unimpressive. A critical tweet read, "If you want to see how not to act, just watch Nadaaniyan. No chemistry, no charm, just another forgettable rom-com."
What Critics Say
Film critics also had mixed views on the movie. Nandini Ramnath of Scroll.in described it as "breezy but forgettable, with weak characters and an unoriginal story that fails to emotionally connect."
Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV called it "a lively but shallow rom-com," adding that while the film touches on serious themes, its lighthearted approach prevents them from making a strong impact.
Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com pointed out the lack of chemistry between the leads, stating, "Nadaaniyan tries to copy Hollywood-style teen romances but lacks the charm, wit, and energy needed to pull it off."
About the Film
Directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, Nadaaniyan tells the story of Arjun Mehta (Ibrahim Ali Khan), an ambitious law student, and Pia Jai Singh (Khushi Kapoor), a young woman who believes in love over career. Their unexpected arrangement leads to emotional drama and romance.
Despite the criticism, Nadaaniyan has sparked discussions about Bollywood’s evolving romantic comedies and the challenges faced by star kids making their big-screen debuts.
