Cyber Crime: Phone Hacked, Rs 18.30 Lakh Stolen from Bank Accounts
Cybercriminals allegedly hacked the phone of a 56-year-old man, siphoning off over Rs 18.30 lakh from his two bank accounts. The victim, Nana Motiramji Khade, resides at Plot No 166, Laxmi Nagar, Mahajanwadi, Wanadongri, Hingna Road. Khade holds accounts with the Bank of Baroda, Hingna Branch, and HDFC Bank, Ramtek, both linked to his mobile phone.
During a pilgrimage to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand from May 26 to June 11, 2024, Khade's phone malfunctioned and stopped working. Upon returning to the city, he had the phone repaired. To his dismay, Khade discovered that cyber fraudsters had transferred Rs 18,30,631 from his bank accounts to other accounts.
Following Khade's complaint, MIDC Police registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, and initiated an investigation.
