Delhi Youth Booked for Harassing Girl, Sharing Number on Social Media
Nagpur, India- Bajaj Nagar Police have registered a case against a young man from Delhi, Vikas Patel Verma, for allegedly circulating a girl's phone number and making objectionable comments about her on social media. The incident came to light when the victim, who had returned to the city after attending a private coaching class in Delhi for Civil Services Examination preparation, began receiving a barrage of inappropriate and humiliating phone calls.
Callers mistakenly assumed she was a call girl, leaving her distressed and frustrated. In addition to the phone calls, she also received lewd comments. To uncover the source of her harassment, the victim convinced one of the callers to reveal how they obtained her number. The caller provided a screenshot of a social media group where the girl's number was shared, along with the name of the individual responsible—Vikas Patel Verma. The victim identified Vikas from a photograph on Telegram as a fellow student from her coaching class in Delhi.
Based on the victim's complaint, the Bajaj Nagar Police have booked Vikas under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to address the harassment and defamation experienced by the victim.
