Dermatologist recommends a skincare regimen to address persistent acne
Whether it's avoiding the impulse to pop it or having pimples at the last minute on a date night, acne anxiety is real. However, the most dreaded is undoubtedly the dark hyperpigmentation caused by acne scars.
In a recent Instagram video, board-certified dermatologist Dr. David Kim discussed the problem of acne scars and hyperpigmentation and offered some product recommendations.
He outlined the procedures to stop acne outbreaks and even correct hyperpigmentation that already exists, emphasizing that prevention is key.
1. Benzoyl peroxide- To treat acne and stop breakouts, he suggested using a face cleanser containing 4% benzoyl peroxide.
2. Azelaic acid- Because it targets and heals both acne and hyperpigmentation, Dr. Kim referred to it as "super unique." He recommended putting it on in a thin coating.
3. Sunscreen- He described the advantages of this kind of sunscreen, which protects the skin from damaging UV rays and visible light, so averting hyperpigmentation.
4. Tretinoin- According to Dr. Kim, it's the rockstar and MVP. This solution simultaneously addresses hyperpigmentation, acne, acne scarring, and skin texture, among other acne-related issues.
5. Serum- Finally, he suggested a light-textured, brightening serum that includes tranexamic acid, vitamin C, arbutin, and kojic acid.
