During the election, Nagpur implements Section 144 for Holi

Section 144 has remained in effect in Nagpur city through March 31st, in the midst of the Holi celebrations and the electoral code of conduct. In light of the Holi holiday celebrations, Deputy Police Commissioner Ashwati Dorje gave directives to begin implementing Section 144 in the city on Sunday. The directive took effect at 12:00 a.m. on Friday and will stay in effect until midnight on March 31.

The order makes it quite evident that on March 24 for Holika Dahan, March 25 for Dhulandi, and March 30 for Rangpanchami, Section 144 was enforced in the city. Strict observance of the election code of conduct will also be observed.

Residents in residential areas during Holika Dahan should be cautious during this time. It is strictly forbidden to burn Holi near railroad rails. Throwing balloons filled with water or colors carries harsh punishments. Furthermore, religious buildings, temples, and other public spaces are forbidden from hosting divisive posters. Slogan shouting is also subject to restrictions.

Furthermore, it is not permitted to play loud music above the permitted noise levels. During this time, any reference to religion or religious symbols will face severe legal repercussions.
