Early Heatwave Signals Tough Summer Ahead for Maharashtra

Nagpur, India: Nagpur recorded its hottest day of 2025 on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 37.6°C. This was 3.2°C above normal, making it an uncomfortable day for many, especially those exposed to direct sunlight.

Other parts of Vidarbha also experienced high temperatures. Chandrapur was the hottest place in the region at 39.0°C, making it the second hottest city in Maharashtra after Solapur, which recorded 39.4°C.

Several other cities also saw rising temperatures. Akola recorded 38.5°C, followed by Bramhapuri at 38.2°C. Wardha, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal saw temperatures between 37.2°C and 37.5°C, while Washim and Gondia crossed the 36°C mark. The coolest place in Vidarbha was Buldhana, which recorded 34.8°C.

Weather experts predict that temperatures may drop slightly by 1-2°C over the next few days but will rise again soon. Some parts of Vidarbha are expected to touch 40°C after March 16.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong easterly winds are blocking the cool sea breeze, leading to unusually high temperatures. Coastal areas of Maharashtra have already seen temperatures rise 2-4°C above normal.

With such early heatwave-like conditions, the coming summer is expected to be tough for residents, farmers, and officials managing heat-related challenges.
