Easy activities to improve children's brain development

Improving children's cognitive functioning is essential for improving their memory, attention, and ability to make decisions. Waseda University researchers recently completed a study that showed the beneficial effects of light-intensity exercise on children's brains.

The prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for critical cognitive functions, can receive more blood flow when brief bursts of low-impact, basic exercise are performed, according to the study.

This research has the potential to improve children's quality of life and cognitive abilities, particularly for those who lead sedentary lifestyles with little physical activity.

41 healthy school-age youngsters were included in the study. They learned a few simple exercises that they could do anyplace. The following are the exercises:

1. Upward Stretch

2. Shoulder Stretch

3. Elbow Circles

4. Trunk Twist

5. Washing Hands

6. Thumb and Pinky

7. Single-leg Balance

Increased blood flow to the prefrontal cortex was seen in the students when they completed these workouts. Increased brain activity is indicated by this increased blood flow, particularly in the areas of the brain linked to memory, attention, decision-making, and focus.
