Eight Booked for ₹1.20 Crore Fraud at Dharampeth Mahila Co-op Society

Nagpur, India: Sitabuldi Police have filed a case against eight individuals for allegedly cheating The Dharampeth Mahila Multistate Co-operative Society Ltd out of ₹1.20 crore by selling mortgaged agricultural land using forged documents.

The accused have been identified as Dudharam Lodkuji Sawwalakhe, Pranita Dudharam Sawwalakhe, Ranjit Natthusingh Naukaria, Meera Natthusingh Naukaria, Manisha Ranjit Naukaria, Jagdish Naukaria — all residents of Subhedar Layout, Hudkeshwar — along with Dhananjay Jaywant Barokar from Aath Rasta Chowk, Laxmi Nagar.

According to the police, Pranita, Ranjit, and Meera took loans of ₹40 lakh each from the society by mortgaging agricultural land. The others acted as witnesses to the transactions. Later, the accused sold the mortgaged land to Veeraswami Vyankateshwarrrao Konabatula and even had the deal notarised, despite the land being under lien with the society.

The fraud was discovered when society officials noticed the illegal sale. Acting on a complaint by Pramod Gavai (50), a resident of Nandanvan Colony, Sitabuldi Police registered a case.

The accused have been booked under Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Further investigation is in progress.
