Elderly NRI couple’s land sold using fake documents, case registered in Nagpur

Nagpur, India: A shocking case of land fraud has come to light in the city where a plot owned by an elderly couple living in the United States was illegally sold using fake documents. The Ambazari police have registered a case and started an investigation.
The couple, Sudhir Purushottam Chopde (69) and his wife Sucheta, live in Chembur, Mumbai. Sudhir is a retired government employee who earlier worked in Muscat, Oman. His father had bought a 3,480 sq ft plot (Plot No. S-61) in Futala in 1966. After his father passed away in 1997, the plot was transferred to Sudhir and his wife through a will.
The plot, which is next to Sudhir’s cousin Kiran Chopde’s house, was being looked after by Kiran. When Kiran heard people were discussing the sale of the plot, he informed Sudhir. At the time, Sudhir and Sucheta were in the US visiting their son and daughter.
When they returned to India and came to Nagpur, they were shocked to find that their plot had already been sold. During their inquiry, they found out that someone had created fake Aadhaar and PAN cards in their names and used them to sell the plot to two people – Ankit Naresh Jain (33) from Sadar and Amir Iqbal Sheikh (30) from Gurunanakpura, Kamal Chowk.
Sudhir then filed a complaint at Ambazari police station. Police have registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and have launched a full investigation. Officers are now trying to find out who created the fake documents and how the sale was carried out.
