Engineer Duped of Rs 22 Lakh by Woman and Bank Employee in Beltarodi

Nagpur, India: A 23-year-old engineer was tricked into losing Rs 22 lakh by a woman and her accomplice, a bank employee. The police have filed a case against Sejal Ajay Sadhwani and Rashmi Pradeep Gavai, who are accused of using the engineer’s documents to take out loans under the pretence of an investment opportunity.

Ajinkya Bharat Mahure, the victim, recently started working in an IT company in Hyderabad. He received a message from Sejal, who pretended to be a Chartered Accountant (CA) student and an investment planner. Sejal convinced Ajinkya to invest in the stock market, promising him huge returns.

In January 2024, Sejal convinced Ajinkya to invest Rs 1 lakh, offering a return of Rs 20 lakh. She also asked him to mortgage his shares and send money to her account, claiming it would help her save on taxes. Trusting her, Ajinkya transferred the money.

Sejal then asked for Ajinkya’s Aadhaar, PAN, and other documents. Later, large amounts of money were transferred from his account into Sejal’s. Ajinkya also noticed Rs 16,000 being deducted from his account. When he asked Sejal about it, she claimed her account was closed and the money was being taken from his instead.

Things took a serious turn when officials from finance companies visited Ajinkya to collect loan repayments. Ajinkya then realized that loans had been taken in his name using his documents, without his knowledge.

Ajinkya immediately reported the matter to the police. The police have now filed a case and are investigating the crime.
