Exciting News! Pench Tiger Reserve Takes Initiative for Eco-Friendly Safari Experience

Pench Tiger Reserve is preparing to introduce two solar-powered boats for jungle safari in the Pench area starting in November. Each boat will have a capacity of 24 passengers, with a unique wildlife discovery experience along the Pench River. Dr Prabhu Nath Shukla, the field director of Pench Tiger Reserve.

The reserve is currently waiting for government approval for a tender worth 2.15 crore, after which the solar boats will be put into process. These boats will be equipped with backup petrol/diesel engines for emergency situations. The total cost for executing eco-friendly solar boats and other necessary facilities for tourists is calculated at 2.92 crore, supported by the District Planning Committee.

The solar boats promise an eco-friendly safari experience, free from air, noise, and water pollution. Passengers will have the opportunity to observe wildlife, including tigers, leopards, bison, sloth bears, sambar deer, wild dogs, and many more, as they come to the riverbank to quench their thirst.

The safari route will travel 23 kilometres and take around two-and-a-half hours to complete. The management is considering a per-head charge of around Rs 1,500 for each trip. Additionally, if the starting point of the boat safari is at the backwaters of Navegaon-Khairy reservoir near Borban in the Chorbahuli forest range within the Mansinghdeo Wildlife Sanctuary of the tiger reserve, tourists may have the chance to observe four elephants, including one female, at a new elephant camp (though elephant rides are not currently available).

This initiative aims to provide tourists with a thrilling opportunity to witness the natural wonders of Pench, including the numerous tigers that roam the jungles between Kolitmara and Navegaon-Khairy (Lower Pench) in the Parseoni tehsil area, often visiting the river. The water safari promises to be a visually stunning experience in the serene embrace of nature.
