Fact Check: No Project to Move Out of Maharashtra, ReNew to Invest Rs 15,000 crore

Fact Check: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the opposition's claims that solar projects are being moved out of the state on Thursday. His statement followed a clarification from ReNew, a renewable energy company, confirming they are not leaving Maharashtra.

We did the fact check on the claim and learned, it from the sources. No Project is leaving Maharastra and the ReNews company will invest the pledged amount of Rs 15,000 crore by the coming year. False claims and political pressure must not influence the projects credibility.

Fadnavis said, “The opposition is spreading false information, trying to suggest that the ReNew power plant is shifting to Gujarat. However, ReNew has confirmed its commitment to Maharashtra and announced an increase in its investments. This has proven the opposition wrong."

The issue started when Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut accused the BJP of harming Mumbai's reputation and resources by moving industries and institutions to Gujarat. Raut claimed, “Amit Shah and Modi have taken everything from Mumbai to Gujarat, including land and industries. Now, people fear that even our Ganesh festival might be moved there."

Raut also stressed that Mumbai is central to Maharashtra’s identity, and the Marathi people have a historical connection to the city. He added that the BJP’s actions are taking away opportunities and wealth from the region.

ReNew, meanwhile, responded to media reports from Nagpur, calling them misleading and inaccurate. Some reports had suggested that the company was abandoning its Nagpur project due to high power tariffs and failed talks with officials. ReNew denied these claims, stating they are investing further in Maharashtra and are not shifting any projects to Gujarat. The company officially posted their response on social media, assuring the people to stay with facts.

The company, which already has 550 MW of installed capacity in Maharashtra and another 2,000 MW under development, plans to invest Rs 15,000 crore by 2025-26 to increase its operations in the state.

Maharashtra’s Industry Minister Uday Samant also rejected the opposition's claims, accusing them of spreading lies. He confirmed that ReNew is expanding its capacity in Maharashtra and will not move to Gujarat.

Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar alleged that the ReNew project, worth Rs 18,000 crore, was being shifted from Maharashtra to Gujarat, citing political and bureaucratic failures. He linked this to earlier instances where projects like Vedanta-Foxconn and Tata-Airbus had moved out of the state.

However, both Fadnavis and Samant emphasized that these claims are baseless, pointing to ReNew’s continued investment in Maharashtra as evidence. Our fact-check sources claim the rumours of shifting the ReNew Company project to Gujrat as Misleading.
