‘Fake’ doctor confesses to forging documents; linked to seven patient deaths

Damoh – Dr Narendra John Camm, arrested in connection with the deaths of seven heart patients at Mission Hospital, has confessed during police interrogation that he used fake documents to obtain his job. He admitted to forging all his educational qualifications, including a fake cardiology degree.

Investigations revealed that his real name is Vikramaditya Narendra Yadav, a native of Kanpur. One of his forged documents included a fake degree from Puducherry University that bore the counterfeit signature of former Vice President of India Hamid Ansari, who was Chancellor of the university at the time.

Following complaints to the District Health Department, the hospital was asked to submit his credentials. The documents claimed he had completed his MBBS and MD from Kolkata University and specialised in cardiology from Puducherry University. However, verification from Sagar Medical College revealed that he had no recognised qualification in cardiology. Further checks were also initiated with Jabalpur Medical College.

CMHO Dr Mukesh Jain confirmed the degrees were fraudulent, noting the absence of a roll number or enrolment number and the forged signature. An FIR was subsequently filed at Kotwali Police Station, leading to his arrest from Prayagraj on 7 April.

Initially, the accused complained of illness at the time of arrest. However, with a five-day police remand now granted by the court, police have stated that more thorough interrogation will take place. Officers noted that he continues to give misleading information.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine how the individual was able to work as a specialist in a prominent hospital using entirely fake credentials.
