Five-Members Charged for Extorting Elderly Woman in Imambada
Nagpur, India- The Imambada Police have arrested a five-member gang accused of attempting to extort money from an elderly woman at her grocery store. The gang allegedly demanded 'hafta' (protection money) from the woman and, upon her refusal, looted ₹2,000 from a salesman at the shop.
The suspects, identified as Sunny alias Manpreet Chauhan (30), Aman Jeevan Khare (30), Sunny Raja Tambe (25), Prashant Subhash Kamble (32), and Bunty alias Raj Naresh Mehsuliya (25), are residents of Imambada Basti.
The incident occurred on July 25, when 70-year-old Asha Tulsiram Rajput was at her grocery shop, Balaji Mart, located near Kundanlal Gupta Library. Around 9 pm, the gang arrived and demanded ₹5,000 as 'hafta' for allowing her to run her business without issues. After the shopkeeper refused, they threatened her and left.
On July 30, the gang returned to the shop around 9:30 pm, again demanding money. When Asha Rajput refused, they stole ₹2,000 from the pocket of salesman Rajkumar Parve and threatened to kill the shopkeeper as they fled.
Upon receiving the complaint from Asha Rajput, the police acted quickly and arrested the suspects within six hours. The accused have been charged under Sections 308(4), 310(2), and 60(a) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The arrests were made by Senior PI Kamlakar Gaddime, PSI Madavi, and their team.
