Food Poisoning Strikes 105 Girl Students at Gadchiroli Ashram Shala

In a disturbing incident at the Government Ashram Shala in Sode, Dhanora taluka, Gadchiroli district, 105 female students fell victim to food poisoning after consuming their meals. The affected students have been admitted to the Dhanora Sub-District Hospital for treatment, with initial reports indicating that 15 to 20 girls were treated and discharged, while 73 students with severe symptoms were referred to the Gadchiroli District Hospital.

The students were served lunch around noon and experienced vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming potatoes-cauliflower curry, lentils, and rice. Following the incident, there has been significant public outcry, highlighting concerns about the management of the Ashram Shala within the tribal development projects.

While approximately 15 students have been discharged after treatment, the remaining 75 students are undergoing treatment at the sub-district hospital and have been shifted to the district hospital. Although the students are currently stable, some are experiencing heightened anxiety, leading to their referral to the district hospital. Dr. Khandate, a civil surgeon from Gadchiroli, is closely monitoring the medical situation, and Rahul Meena, the official from the Gadchiroli Tribal Development Project, is personally overseeing operations at the hospital.

It has been revealed that the meal contract at the school was outsourced, but the school staff appears to have been involved in the cooking process.
