Four Police Officers Suspended for Independence Day Dance in Uniform

Nagpur, India: Four police officers have been suspended after a video of them dancing in their uniforms on Independence Day went viral. The incident occurred at the Tehsil Police Station, where ASI Sanjay Patankar, Head Constable Abdul Qayyum Ghani, policewoman Bhagyashree Giri, and Constable Nirmala Gawli performed to the Bollywood song "Khike Paan Banaras Wala" following the flag hoisting ceremony.

The video, which received mixed reactions online, led to a swift response from authorities. Some viewers defended the officers' right to celebrate, while others criticized the appropriateness of their actions in uniform.

Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singhal and DCP Rahul Madane of Circle 3 acted quickly, suspending the officers for three months. The suspension order stressed the need for maintaining discipline and respect for the police force’s public image. During the suspension, the officers will receive only half of their regular salary and a proportional dearness allowance. They have been stripped of all other government benefits, prohibited from engaging in any other employment and required to report to the reserved police inspector twice daily. Additionally, they must return their uniforms, identification cards, and all government documents.

This incident highlights the importance of upholding professionalism, particularly during national events like Independence Day.
