Free Wheelchair Accessible Transport for Nagpur Voters on Election Day
Nagpur, India: Retired scientist Prakash Andhare, who has been offering a free wheelchair-accessible car service for voters who use wheelchairs, as well as a stair-climbing wheelchair for those living on upper floors without elevators, is once again making these services available on voting day, November 20, under the supervision of district election officers.
The service, previously offered during the last two elections, will once again be available at no cost to voters in need. Voters requiring this assistance can contact Andhare on WhatsApp at 91672 08570 to register and arrange for the service in advance.
Voters are asked to provide their location and details of their disability when registering. The car can transport one wheelchair user to and from the polling station each hour, allowing up to 10 people to benefit from this service over the 10-hour voting period. This assistance will be available across all six constituencies of Nagpur city, under the supervision of district election officers.
Andhare retired from his role as Deputy Director at the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, located in Pilani, Rajasthan.
