Gadchiroli Couple Carries Deceased Children on Shoulders Due to Lack of Ambulance
Nagpur, India: In a tragic incident in Gadchiroli, a young couple had to carry the bodies of their two young children, aged 3 and 6, on their shoulders for 15 kilometres after an ambulance failed to arrive. The children, Bajirao Ramesh Weladi (6) and Dinesh Ramesh Weladi (3), died after allegedly receiving treatment from a local healer.
The Weladi family, residents of Yerragadda village in Aheri taluka, had gone to visit the children's grandfather in Pattigaon. Upon arrival, both Bajirao and Dinesh developed high fevers. Their parents sought help from a local healer, or ‘vaidu,’ who gave them herbal medicine. However, instead of improving, the children's health rapidly declined.
The parents rushed their sons to the Jimalgatta Primary Health Centre (PHC), but sadly, Bajirao passed away at 10:30 AM, followed by Dinesh around noon.
Despite the parents' grief, their ordeal continued as they were unable to find an ambulance to take the bodies back to their village. Although doctors at the PHC made efforts to arrange an ambulance from Dechlipetha, it could not reach them due to poor road conditions. With no other option, the devastated parents carried their children's bodies back to Yerragadda on foot.
This tragic event underscores the lack of medical infrastructure and transportation in remote areas, which can turn emergencies into unthinkable hardships for families.
