Ganeshpeth Police Arrest Bike Thief, Recover Six Stolen Vehicles

Nagpur, India: Ganeshpeth police have arrested a vehicle thief and recovered six stolen two-wheelers worth ₹1.89 lakh. The arrest has also helped solve four cases of vehicle theft in the city.  

On 18 January 2025, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, Shivam Ramnath Gupta, a 26-year-old resident of Chandranil Apartment, Azad Chowk, Nagpur, parked his Activa moped (MH 31 FD 9465) near Sandesh Dawabazar in the Ganeshpeth area. He locked the vehicle and went away. When he returned, his Activa was missing.  

Gupta reported the theft to Ganeshpeth police, who registered a case under Section 379 against an unknown thief and started an investigation.  

During the investigation, the police received important information about the suspect. Using technical surveillance and other tracking methods, they arrested Rishabhraj Sham Ashopa, a 27-year-old resident of Vardhaman Nagar, Nagpur.  

When questioned, Ashopa admitted to stealing the Activa. He also confessed to stealing three more vehicles, two from Sitabuldi and one from Ajni police station limits.  

The police seized six stolen two-wheelers from the accused: Activa moped (MH 31 FD 9465) worth ₹34,000, Honda Dio (MH 40 BY 2090) worth ₹30,000, Honda Shine (MH 31 EH 4056) worth ₹25,000, a white Activa without a number plate worth ₹35,000, a brown Activa (MH 49 AY 2046) worth ₹30,000, and a black Activa (MH 49 SY 6568) worth ₹35,000.  

This successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahek Swami and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anita More. The police team included Inspector Machhindra Pandit, Assistant Inspectors Malhari Doiphode and Sameer Shaikh, along with officers Tejram Zanzad, Pawan Malkhede, Dalit Lokhande, Sumedh Nitanware, Vaibhav, and Sagar.  

The police are continuing their investigation to find out if the accused is linked to more vehicle thefts.
