Giriraj Cotton Industries Fire in Parseoni Tehsil Causes ₹42 Crore Loss

Nagpur, India: A massive fire broke out at Giriraj Cotton Industries, a ginning and pressing mill in Aamdi village, Parseoni tehsil, early on Sunday around 3:40 am. The fire caused extensive damage, with losses estimated at ₹42 crore, according to mill spokesperson Pawan Suda.
The fire started due to friction from a vehicle’s wheel that passed over leftover cotton stuck on the concrete floor. Sparks went unnoticed during the ongoing ginning process, which eventually led to the flames spreading rapidly.
Workers initially tried to control the fire using extinguishers and informed the mill owners. The Parseoni Municipal Fire Brigade reached the site at around 4:30 am, but the fire had already spread. Multiple fire tenders from MIHAN Nagpur, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Ramtek, Kanhan, Kamthi, Mohpa, Wadi, Kalmeshwar, Bhandara, and Mauda, along with teams from Chhindwara and Sausar in Madhya Pradesh, were deployed to contain the blaze.
The fire destroyed:
-
3,100 cotton bales
-
30,000 quintals of raw cotton
-
8,000 quintals of cotton seeds
-
Ginning and pressing machinery
-
A JCB machine and transport vehicles
-
An industrial shed
Though the fire was brought under control by 1 pm, efforts to extinguish the flames completely continued until late Sunday night, with 20 fire trucks engaged.
Authorities are currently assessing the damage and investigating the incident to prevent such occurrences in the future.
