GMC of Nagpur Agrees to Increase the Stipend of Interns

For interns at Maharashtra's government medical colleges (GMC), the monthly stipend has increased to Rs 18,000 from the previous amount. These interns were previously paid Rs 11,000 per month. The demands of intern doctors, who assert that Maharashtra provides the lowest stipends in this area, to increase their pay have persisted.
The ruling will take effect in February 2024. Foreign medical graduates (FMGs) who finished their MBBS outside of India and are interning in GMCs in Maharashtra upon their return would be eligible for this increased pay.
The Association of State Medical Interns in Maharashtra, led by Dr. Atharva Shinde, stated, "We have been demanding a monthly stipend of Rs 30,000." This sum is being paid by states like Assam and Karnataka. However, we are happy that Maharashtra is now at least not the state paying the least for intern physicians at GMCs thanks to the enhanced stipend.
Dr. Shinde continued, "Their demand was much higher, and the Directorate of Medical Education and Research proposed an amount of Rs 22,000 when they submitted the proposal for the increase to the state government." "The state has finally decided to raise it to Rs. 18,000 per month. It took close to a year to complete. The majority of us will finish our internships in the upcoming months. Thus, we agreed to whatever the raiseis now."
