Great Enthusiasm At 21st LG Somalwar Memorial Boys Team Chess Championship
The 21st LG Somalwar Memorial Boys Team Chess Championship began with great enthusiasm, as 74 teams from various schools participated in the two-day competition hosted by the Somalwar Academy. The event took place at the Annasahib Somalwar Memorial Sabhagruha, with 46 teams in the High School category and 28 in the Primary group competing. On the first day, four rounds were played in both segments, with the Narayana Vidyalayam team leading the High School group and CPS Katol Road, BBPVM Trimurti Nagar, and BBPVM Civil Lines sharing the spotlight in the Primary group.
Throughout the tournament, six teams affiliated with different branches of Bhavan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir (BBPVM) secured their positions among the top 11 in the Primary group standings. CPS Katol Road, BVM Trimurti Nagar, and BVM Civil Lines demonstrated exceptional prowess by amassing an impressive seven points each, effectively claiming the leadership position.
A prize distribution ceremony was scheduled for 4:00 pm, with the awards being conferred by the esteemed Executive Members of the Somalwar Academy in the distinguished presence of the Chess Association of Nagpur's office-bearers. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of arbiters ensured a fair and smooth gameplay environment, under the adept guidance of Chief Arbiter Amrish Joshi and Sheetal Panbude.
After Round 4, the standings reflect the remarkable talent displayed by the participating teams. In the Primary Boys category, CPS Katol Road, BVM Trimurti Nagar, and BVM Civil Lines secured the top three positions with seven points each. In the High School Boys category, Narayana Vidyalayam and Chinchbhavan led with eight points each. Many other teams are also in contention for the top spots.
