Hamid Engineer’s Hidden Past Revealed Following March 17 Violence

Nagpur, India: Hamid Engineer, the national president of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP), is accused of planning violence in Nagpur. He had good connections in government offices and police circles. Hamid had built an image of a law-abiding citizen who often helped the police with information about terrorism. However, his involvement in the violence on March 17 has shocked many.

Hamid and YouTuber Mohammad Shehzad Khan were arrested after the March 17 violence. Before their arrest, the police had already taken MDP leader Fahim Khan Shamim into custody, calling him the ‘mastermind’ of the violence. Sources say that many others were involved in planning the unrest, but their names have not been revealed yet.

The cyber police are now checking the mobile phones of Hamid, Shehzad, Fahim, and other suspects to find out more about their activities and contacts. Many suspects have deleted important information or hidden their main phones. The police are trying to recover this lost data, and more arrests may happen soon.

Sources said that Fahim Khan had earlier filed a police complaint against someone who had recently come to the city. Since the complaint was sensitive, the police handled it carefully. After the violence, authorities have started reviewing this complaint as it has become a matter of public concern.

On the morning of March 17, Hamid posted on social media asking for donations for "Mujahideens." After his arrest, he claimed the funds were for helping people in Gaza. He still insists that he is against terrorism.

Hamid has been active for almost 30 years. He worked as a junior engineer in the irrigation department but took voluntary retirement (VRS), saying that his government job was stopping him from doing "social work." Initially, he was running two organisations before getting involved in political and social activities.
