Harsh Dubey of Vidarbha wins Player of the Match in Pondicherry
On the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group B encounter, Vidarbha easily defeated Pondicherry by 120 runs on Monday at Siechem Stadium in Pondicherry.
Vidarbha cleaned out the hosts for 82 runs in their second innings in 24 overs to record their second consecutive outright victory of the season on an action-packed day that saw 17 wickets fall. After their hitters once again failed to get going, the bowlers from Vidarbha, led by left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey (4/20), shared the benefits.
After starting at 25/3, Vidarbha continued to lose wickets and was beaten to 76/8 when Akshay Wakhare (17) and Harsh Dubey (37) scored 48 runs for the ninth wicket to force Pondicherry to chase 203 to win.
But, the home team was never in the hunt and lost nine wickets for fifty runs. Only Gaurav Yadav (25), the penultimate man, and Ankit Sharma (8*) could postpone the inevitable by adding 32 runs.
The Player of the Match award went to Harsh Dubey, who took seven wickets and scored 76 and 37 runs with the bat. From October 26 to 29, 2024, Vidarbha will play Uttarakhand in Dehradun.
