Heavy Rain Causes Flooding in Nagpur, Disrupts Traffic
The residents of low-lying areas in Nagpur faced a challenging morning as heavy rains pounded the city in the early hours of Thursday. The downpour resulted in flooded streets, under bridges, and houses, causing inconvenience and traffic disruptions in various parts of the city.
The intense rain, lasting for about an hour from midnight to dawn, led to widespread inundation across Nagpur. Officials from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's fire and emergency services department reported that rainwater seeped into many houses in different parts of the city, including the north, east, south, and west areas.
Thankfully, there were no casualties or house collapses reported, as stated by fire officials. Despite the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall, Nagpur's residents were fortunate to avoid any loss of life or major property damage.
However, the city's monsoon preparedness, handled by NMC, once again came under scrutiny due to the recurring issue of waterlogging during heavy rains. The Narendra Nagar railway underbridge and airport road were both submerged in waist-deep water, adding to the commuters' woes.
The situation was exacerbated by water accumulation in basements, leading to several complaints from residents. In response, the fire department promptly took action, deploying personnel to dewater affected areas. The firemen worked tirelessly to clear choked stormwater networks and used electric pumps to drain water from submerged houses in places like Padole Nagar and Omkar Nagar, easing the situation for the affected residents.
