Heavy Rains Bring Relief to City on Monday, Cause Traffic Jams
Nagpur, India: Monday morning provided some relief from the humid weather. Heavy rains lashed the city for over an hour, lowering the maximum temperature by 1-2 degrees Celsius. The city recorded 33 mm of rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The downpour led to waterlogged roads, resulting in traffic jams across many parts of the city during the morning rush hour. The rain, which started around 10 a.m. and lasted until 11 a.m., reduced visibility on the roads to just a few hundred meters, further slowing traffic.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Vidarbha over the coming days, with the possibility of one or two heavy rain events. On Monday, Nagpur and Akola experienced the highest rainfall in the region, both recording 33 mm. Buldhana received 4 mm of rainfall, while other parts of Vidarbha remained dry.
In recent days, the lack of monsoon rain has kept maximum temperatures across Vidarbha above 30°C. On Monday, Gondia recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34.4°C, followed by Akola at 34.2°C, Bramhapuri at 33.8°C, Wardha at 33.1°C, and Nagpur and Chandrapur both at 32.8°C. The minimum temperatures in Vidarbha remained above 23°C.
