Hidden Camera in Girls' Hostel Sparks Protests at Andhra Engineering College
Nagpur, India: Students at Gudlavalleru College of Engineering in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district have staged a major protest following the discovery of a hidden camera in the girls' hostel washroom. Allegations that videos recorded by the camera were circulated among students have sparked outrage.
The incident came to light when a student found the hidden camera late Thursday night. The discovery led to a large demonstration at the college, where students demanded justice and expressed concerns about their safety and privacy.
In response, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a thorough investigation. The police have filed a case and detained a final-year student suspected of involvement. The student's identity remains confidential as investigations proceed.
The college administration has denied finding any hidden cameras and stated they are cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. They have also promised to implement enhanced security measures on campus.
Krishna District Collector DK Balaji and Superintendent of Police (SP) R Gangadhar Rao visited the college amid the protests. SP Gangadhar Rao reported that no hidden cameras were discovered after examining the laptops and phones of the accused student. "We have seized the student's electronic devices, but no incriminating evidence was found," he said. "There is no need for undue worry; the investigation is ongoing."
