Akola, Nagpur: Nagpur is gearing up for the festival of Holi and Dhulivandan. Among the many celebrations in the city, the Holika Dahan event at Rani Sati Temple is one of the most awaited rituals. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the grand ceremony, which symbolises the victory of good over evil.
At the temple courtyard, a spectacular display of Holika Dahan is set up, depicting the scene of Holika sitting with devotee Prahlad on her lap. The sacred fire is prepared with cow dung cakes and coconuts, adding to the spiritual and traditional beauty of the occasion. Devotees believe that participating in this ritual brings prosperity and removes negativity from life.
Mahurat & Rituals
The Holika Dahan Mahurat this year falls in the evening, with the most auspicious time being between 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM. During this time, people perform the ritual of lighting the Holika bonfire while chanting sacred prayers. Families gather around the fire, offering wheat grains, coconut, and camphor to seek blessings for a happy and prosperous life.
As part of the tradition, devotees also take burning embers from the Holika fire back to their homes to purify their surroundings. The following day, on Dhulivandan, people celebrate with colours, sweets, and music, spreading joy and unity.
With just a short time left for Holi, the excitement is building up, and preparations are in full swing across Nagpur. The Holika Dahan at Rani Sati Temple remains a major highlight, bringing together devotees in a grand celebration of faith and tradition.
