Home Guard Duty Allowances in Maharashtra Doubled, Highest in India
In a significant move at enhancing the welfare of Home Guards, the Maharashtra Government's Home Department has substantially raised their allowances. The daily duty allowance has been increased from ₹570 to ₹1,083 per day, making it the highest in the country, as stated by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In addition to the duty allowance, other benefits for the Home Guards have also seen a rise. The gift allowance has been doubled from ₹100 to ₹200, the drill allowance has increased from ₹90 to ₹180, the pocket allowance from ₹35 to ₹100, and the food allowance raised from ₹100 to ₹250. These changes took effect from October 1, 2024, providing much-needed financial support to those who serve the state in times of need.
Fadnavis, in a recent tweet, highlighted the benefit of around 55,000 Home Guards across Maharashtra. He also emphasized that the recent recruitment of 11,207 Home Guards, who are currently undergoing training, aligns with the state's commitment to strengthening its forces. An approved amount of ₹552.71 crore has been allocated for the current financial year 2024-25, with ₹795.71 crore set aside for subsequent years to meet the expenditure arising from this increase.
The Home Guards, established on December 6, 1946, consist of citizens who volunteer to serve the nation in addition to their regular jobs or professions. They play a crucial role in assisting the police in maintaining law and order, responding during disaster situations, and ensuring the continuity of essential services. Recognizing their invaluable contributions, the government pays them honorariums and allowances.
This hike in allowances is seen as a testament to Devendra Fadnavis' proactive leadership in addressing the needs of Maharashtra's Home Guards. His efforts continue to ensure that the Home Guards are both recognized and rewarded for their dedication to the state, further motivating them in their vital role of supporting law enforcement and disaster management across Maharashtra.
