Home Voting for Elderly and Disabled Voters in Bhandara District
Vidarbha, Bhandara, India: The Election Commission has granted the option for voters with disabilities and those over the age of 85 to cast their votes from home during the Assembly elections. This is a measure to make voting more accessible for these groups.
Between November 7 and 9, voters in the Sakoli and Tumsar assembly constituencies of Bhandara district were able to cast their votes from home. A total of 414 elderly voters in Sakoli and 416 in Tumsar used this facility. This marks the first time the Election Commission has introduced home voting for assembly elections, and voters in the district showed strong participation.
The home voting process in the district is being overseen by Nodal Officer CEO Jayaprakash Parab and Assistant Nodal Officer Karan Kumar Chavan, the Chief Officer of Bhandara. While home voting has already been completed in the Sakoli and Tumsar Assembly constituencies, the process is currently ongoing in the Bhandara Assembly constituency. Senior citizens and voters with disabilities are eligible to take advantage of this home voting facility.
In Tumsar, 416 out of 436 eligible voters utilized the option to vote from home. This includes 304 senior citizens over the age of 85 (out of 316) and 112 voters with disabilities (out of 120), who took part in the home voting process.
In Sakoli constituency, 414 out of 434 eligible voters participated in home voting, including 290 senior citizens over 85 years old (out of 306) and 124 voters with disabilities (out of 128). In Bhandara constituency, 449 out of 505 voters cast their ballots, with 377 senior citizens above 85 years old (out of 423) and 72 voters with disabilities (out of 82). The voting process is still ongoing in Bhandara.
