Arms Smuggling Network Spread in Mominpura, Nagpur
In the wake of the startling discovery of firearms being sold from Mominpura, Nagpur, a perplexing question arises: was it an intelligence failure or are the police somehow complicit in this dangerous trade.
Senior sources within the Nagpur Police revealed that the arms smuggling network came to light during the investigation into the murder of Jamil Ahmed, who was fatally shot on October 25 in Mominpura.
According to the police, Parvez, the mastermind behind Jamil's murder, obtained the murder weapon from Firoz, also known as Haji, in Mominpura. During custody, Firoz disclosed information about the pistol supply chain originating from Imram Alam in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. Sources indicated that Firoz's arms business thrived, particularly after the Covid period.
While the senior police sources did not explicitly comment on whether local law enforcement could be involved in this illicit trade, the fact that the arms smuggling had been ongoing for a considerable period became apparent only through a murder investigation focused on Firoz's arms dealings.
This revelation unveils that the arms smuggling racket operating from Mominpura has reportedly sold over 100 pistols and Mausers over the years, leading to numerous serious incidents, including murders, robberies, and dacoities.
Moreover, there are suspicions that these smuggled weapons may have been used in contract killing incidents, such as the murder of architect Eknath Nimgade. An extensive investigation is currently underway to delve deeper into this concerning situation.
