IAF Jawan Dies by Suicide at Nagpur’s Maintenance Command Headquarters

Nagpur, India: A 36-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan, Jaiveer Singh, died by suicide while on duty at the Maintenance Command Headquarters in Nagpur. The incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday at the guard’s post-Alpha-8 within the Gittikhadan Police Station limits.
Singh, a native of Santor village in Haryana’s Bhiwani district and a resident of Vayusena Nagar, was serving as a sergeant. He reportedly used his service weapon, an AK-103 rifle, to fatally shoot himself in the head while seated at his post.
The sound of the gunshot alarmed fellow jawans, who immediately rushed to the scene. Singh was found unresponsive in a pool of blood, with his weapon lying between his legs. Senior Air Force officials and the Gittikhadan Police were notified.
Senior Police Inspector Kailash Deshmane led a team to the site, where they confirmed Singh had suffered a fatal head injury. An Air Force medical team, headed by Dr. Rakesh, pronounced him dead at the scene. Forensic experts examined the area, and the weapon was seized for further investigation. The body was sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination.
According to Singh’s colleagues, he had appeared visibly stressed in the days leading up to the incident. However, the exact reason behind his actions remains unclear. The Gittikhadan Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter further.
This tragic incident has raised concerns about the mental health and well-being of personnel in high-stress roles. Authorities are working to determine the factors that may have contributed to the sergeant’s decision.
