IMD Forecast: Nagpur to Experience Continuous Rain Until September 11

Nagpur, India: Nagpur is expected to get persistent rainfall until September 11, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city has already experienced heavy rain in the last 48 hours, leading to power outages and waterlogging in many areas.

After a dry spell in August, the southwest monsoon picked up across Vidarbha at the start of September. The IMD has forecasted that monsoon rains will continue almost daily in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, until September 11.

On Monday, Nagpur saw heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds in the early morning, resulting in widespread waterlogging. A second spell of heavy rain later in the evening caused additional power cuts and slowed traffic due to flooded roads.

Over the last 36 hours, Nagpur recorded 44.5 mm of rainfall. Akola experienced the highest rainfall in the region with 61.2 mm, followed by Buldhana with 60.3 mm. Other areas in Vidarbha, such as Yavatmal (48.2 mm), Washim (48 mm), Bhandara (26 mm), Amravati (23.6 mm), Gadchiroli (10 mm), Bramhapuri (2 mm), and Gondia (1.8 mm), also received significant rainfall.

The heavy rainfall was accompanied by severe lightning, causing power outages in various parts of Nagpur. The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during lightning storms to ensure safety.

Due to the heavy rains, maximum temperatures across Vidarbha have dropped by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Buldhana recorded the lowest maximum temperature in the region at 25.6 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. Other cities, including Akola (28.5°C), Amravati (29.2°C), Gadchiroli (29.0°C), and Washim (26°C), also reported maximum temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Despite the downpour, Nagpur’s maximum temperature remained above 30 degrees Celsius. Bramhapuri, which received only 2 mm of rain, was the warmest location in Vidarbha, recording a high of 33.9 degrees Celsius.
