IMD Predicts Continued Heavy Rains in Nagpur District Until July 24

Nagpur, India- The heavy rainfall over the last 48 hours has helped Vidarbha overcome its rain shortage. The East Vidarbha region, which had been short on rain since the monsoon started, now has enough. While the rest of Vidarbha had an early monsoon, East Vidarbha's monsoon was late this year. In June, Nagpur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts had less rain, and this continued until July 15. There were no cyclones in the Bay of Bengal in June and early July, leading to less rain in East Vidarbha at first. However, the widespread rain over the last 48 hours has greatly reduced the rain deficit.

Yavatmal district received the most rain so far, with 42% more than usual. Yavatmal got 492.6 mm of rain compared to the normal 347.2 mm. Buldhana (26%), Chandrapur (29%), Gadchiroli (21%), and Wardha (37%) also received more rain than usual in the first half of the monsoon season. Akola, Amravati, and Washim received normal amounts of rain. In Nagpur district, Kamptee taluka had the highest rain to date with 156.7% more than usual. Normally, Kamptee gets 397.2 mm of rain by July 21, but this year it received 622.3 mm. Last year, Kamptee had a rain deficit with only 70% of the normal rain. Bhiwapur taluka also received a lot of rain, with 142.2% more than usual, getting 586.1 mm compared to the normal 412.1 mm. Last year, Bhiwapur received 112.5% of the normal rain.

Nagpur city and its rural areas also got more rain than usual, with the city getting 135.2% and rural areas 138.3% of the normal rain. After heavy rain on Saturday, Nagpur had a short break on Sunday morning, but the rain started again in the afternoon and continued until late at night. From 8:30 am to 9:30 pm on Sunday, Nagpur city received 23 mm of rain, the highest in Vidarbha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts more heavy rain in Nagpur district until July 24. Because of this, the administration has asked people to be careful and told all departments to be ready to handle any problems.

On Sunday, Bhandara received 9 mm of rain, followed by Gadchiroli (4 mm), Amravati (1 mm), Chandrapur (3 mm), Wardha (1 mm), Yavatmal (1 mm), and Gondia (0.4 mm). Other areas, including Akola, Buldhana, Brahmapuri, and Washim, stayed dry.
