In India, HMPV is not a new virus says Health Minister

While claiming that none of the cases in India had any travel history and that all affected individuals are making a full recovery, the Health Ministry confirmed on Monday that the Human Metapneumovirus is already in circulation throughout the world, including in India.

"The virus's presence in India is not new," the Ministry emphasized. "Health experts have clarified that the HMPV is not a new virus," Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda stated in a video statement.

It has been circulating all over the world for many years, having been discovered for the first time in 2001. HMPV is disseminated via breathing in the air. All age groups are susceptible to this. There is no need for concern because the nation's monitoring networks and health systems are watchful.

He went on to say that while the World Health Organization (WHO) has taken note of the situation, Indian agencies are closely monitoring the situation in China and its neighboring nations.
