India Defeats Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

India secured a dominant six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held in Dubai. With this win, India remains unbeaten against Pakistan in ODIs since the 2017 Champions Trophy final, extending their streak to 6-0.
Kohli Leads the Charge
Star batter Virat Kohli stole the show, scoring an unbeaten century (100*) to guide India to victory. This marked his 51st ODI hundred, further cementing his legacy. Kohli reached the milestone in 111 balls, hitting seven boundaries, and finished the match in style with a four on the last ball. During the innings, he also became the fastest cricketer to reach 14,000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in just 287 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 350 innings.
India’s Run Chase
Chasing a target of 242, India reached the total comfortably in 42.3 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong start before Shreyas Iyer (56) partnered with Kohli to complete the chase.
Pakistan’s Struggle with the Bat
Batting first, Pakistan managed only 241 runs. Saud Shakeel was their top scorer with 62 off 76 balls, while captain Mohammad Rizwan struggled to 46 from 77 deliveries. The two built a 104-run stand, but wickets fell regularly afterward. Khushdil Shah contributed 38 runs, but it wasn’t enough.
Indian Bowlers Shine
India’s bowlers put in a strong performance, restricting Pakistan to a below-par total. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3/40, while Hardik Pandya also made an impact with 2/31, dismissing key batters Babar Azam (23) and Shakeel.
India Tops Group A Standings
With two consecutive wins, India now leads Group A and is on the verge of securing a semi-final spot. Pakistan, on the other hand, has lost both matches and is in danger of elimination. Their qualification hopes now depend on Bangladesh defeating New Zealand and then winning their own match against Bangladesh.
