Creative Initiative Aims to Attract Students Towards Chess Enthusiasm

To promote chess and draw more school students to the game, a unique initiative is set to take place in the city from August 20 to 28, in collaboration with Krida Bharti Nagpur Mahanagar and Vidya Bharti Vidarbha. Former Indian Chess team coach, Sharad Vaze, will engage in simultaneous chess matches with 100 students, announced Prasanna Hardas of Krida Bharti during a press conference at the SJAN office on Thursday.

This initiative will kick off on August 20 at Saraswati Shishu Vidyalaya in Jaitala, followed by Tiptop Convent on August 21, R S Mundle School on August 22, Navayug Vidyalaya Mahal on August 23, Shahu's Garden School Manewada Road on August 24, Gajanan Vidyalaya Ayodhyanagar on August 25, Utkarsh Vidyamandir Khapri on August 26, and Keshavnagar High School Jaganade Chowk on August 28. Five groups of 20 students each will interact with Sharad Vaze, who will play at least five moves with each group. Students from 3rd to 10th grade will participate, with an award for the best performer.

On National Sports Day (August 29), the event will be hosted at Bachchraj Vyas Vidyalaya. Maharashtra's first Grandmaster, Praveen Thipse, will be a special guest. The event was attended by Nagpur Mahanagar President Dr. Sharad Suryawanshi, Vidya Bharti Vidarbha's Shailendra Joshi, Nagpur President Shailendra Manawat, Sandeep Panchbhai, and Vidyabharati's Head of Sports Jitendra Ghordadekar.

Upcoming Sports Events by Vidya Bharati

Shailendra Joshi revealed that sports competitions will commence in the final week of August under Vidya Bharti. The 2023-24 season will witness athletics, volleyball, basketball, ball badminton, kho-kho, softball, mallakhamb, and yogasana contests. In September, the provincial and regional competitions for these eight games will occur at various locations in Nagpur and the western region. The regional athletics competition is scheduled at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University from October 8 to 10, involving 300 players, coaches, and officials from Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa.
