Installation of the Sheshshayi Vishnu Idol in Archaeological Site

Vidarbha, Buldhana, India: The Sheshshayi idol of Lord Vishnu, discovered during an excavation in the samadhi (mausoleum) of Raje Lakhujirao Jadhav earlier in April, has now been placed on a specially constructed stone platform.

The installation took place on the evening of October 5, with officers and engineers from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) overseeing the process. This marks a significant step in honoring the ancient period.

In April, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) began digging in the samadhi area. They first found an old Shiva temple, and while clearing its foundation, they also discovered an 11th-century idol of Lord Vishnu in the Sheshshayi form.

The idol was carefully excavated from the soil under the supervision of Arun Malik, the superintendent of ASI. During this time, a large crowd gathered to witness the event.

The Sheshshayi Vishnu idol discovered during the excavations is reported to weigh 1.5 tonnes. According to ASI officials, the idol measures 1.80 meters in length and 1 meter in height, with a base that is half a meter tall. Once construction is finished, the idol will undergo chemical treatment. After being placed in a glass case, it will be accessible for public viewing.
