Nagpur, India: A thief stole jewellery worth ₹1 crore from a businessman’s house in Surya Nagar, under Kalamna police limits. The police suspect notorious burglar Naresh Mahilange, who has committed over 200 crimes, to be involved.
The theft happened on the night of February 22-23 while the family was out at a birthday party. The thief entered through a sliding window in the basement. A pet dog started barking, so he moved to the second floor, broke into a cupboard, and stole gold and diamond jewellery.
The family returned while the thief was still inside. Hearing the dog, he quickly escaped to the terrace, jumped onto a neighbour’s roof, and fled. He even dropped a jewellery box while running away.
The family informed Kalamna police, and senior officers, including DCP Niketan Kadam, arrived at the spot. CCTV footage showed a man who looked like Mahilange, but he could not be found.
The police have registered a case and estimate the stolen jewellery’s value at ₹24.53 lakh.
