Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated annually on July 26, marks India's triumphant victory in the 1999 conflict with Pakistan and serves as a tribute to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. On this significant day, the nation honours the courage and dedication of the Indian armed forces who fought valiantly during the intense and prolonged Kargil War.

The conflict came to an official end on July 26, 1999, as Indian soldiers successfully recaptured the strategic mountain heights that had been occupied by Pakistani intruders, showcasing the unwavering determination and bravery of our forces.

On this day, we also remember the courage and selflessness of four exceptional soldiers who were awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest gallantry award. These Kargil War heroes displayed extraordinary courage and sacrifice:

Captain Vikram Batra, PVC: A brave officer of the 13th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, Captain Vikram Batra played a pivotal role in recapturing Point 5140 (codenamed 'Point 4875') in the Dras sector. His famous words "Yeh Dil Maange More!" during the war have continued to inspire generations.

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, PVC: Part of the 13th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar's determination and bravery were instrumental in capturing crucial enemy positions at an altitude of 16,000 feet, despite facing heavy enemy fire.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC: A member of the 18 Grenadiers regiment, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav led the assault on Tiger Hill, displaying exceptional courage and leadership even in the face of intense enemy resistance.

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC: Serving in the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles, Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey showed exceptional courage during the Battle of Khalubar in the Batalik sector. His leadership and actions in capturing enemy positions earned him the Param Vir Chakra posthumously, as he sacrificed his life for the country.

These four soldiers embody the highest qualities of bravery, leadership, and sacrifice, and their acts during the Kargil War continue to be revered and cherished by the nation. The Param Vir Chakra stands as a testament to their extraordinary courage and unwavering dedication to the nation.
