Nagpur, India: The city is set to receive its first batch of electric buses under the Central Government’s PM E-Bus Scheme, with 40 e-buses expected to arrive by May 2025. This makes Nagpur the first city to benefit from the initiative aimed at improving urban transport.
A team from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs conducted an inspection on Friday to review the project's progress and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work. Under the scheme, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will receive a total of 150 electric buses. Additionally, the Khapri and Koradi depots are being developed with essential infrastructure to support the e-bus fleet.
The Central Government has allocated funds for electrical connections through Mahavitaran and other construction-related work. The Koradi depot is expected to be completed by April 2025, with high-tension (33KV) electrical work nearing completion, while low-tension and structural work is progressing steadily.
The inspection team included senior officials from the Ministry, CESL, and bus suppliers, along with Deputy Team Leader Ram Paunikar, Senior Transport Planner Amandeep Kumar, and JBM’s Kalyan Reddy. They met with NMC Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari and transport officials to assess the depot’s readiness.
Key NMC officials, including Transport Manager Vinod Jadhav, Administrative Officer Ravindra Page, and Operations Manager Rajiv Ghatole, were also present during the inspection.
