Khasdar Krida Mahotsav 2023 Scheduled from January 12 to 28
The 6th year of the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav is scheduled to take place in Nagpur from January 12 to 28. Famous Indian sprinter Hima Das, speaking at the flag distribution and date announcement event, encouraged aspiring athletes in Nagpur to embrace discipline for success. Hima Das shared her personal journey, emphasizing the sacrifices and dedication required for her rapid rise in the world of athletics since 2017.
The Khasdar Krida Mahotsav, initiated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in 2018, holds special significance for Hima Das as it coincided with her becoming a world champion that year. She expressed gratitude for the grassroots sports festival that Gadkari launched and pledged to promote it wherever she goes.
The upcoming edition of the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav promises to be a grand affair with 56 games scheduled to be played at 66 venues across Nagpur over 17 days. The event, attended by over 2500 players and officials, was presided over by Nitin Gadkari. Hima Das distributed flags to representatives of the 56 sporting disciplines.
Chief Convenor Sandip Joshi highlighted the festival's uniqueness, describing it as "Of the Nagpurian, By the Nagpurian & For the Nagpurians." The diverse range of sports includes football, kho-kho, lawn tennis, basketball, carrom, athletics, swimming, volleyball, badminton, hockey, chess, kabaddi, table tennis, cycling, girls' box cricket, wrestling, bodybuilding, divyang games, archery, taekwon-do, boxing, rifle shooting, fencing, malkhamb, gymnastics, benchpress powerlifting, yog kriya, judo, soft ball, sepak takraw, handball, cricket, tug of war, marathon, martial arts, karate, aatya patya, pittu, langdi, and various traditional Indian games.
The event, spanning 17 days, is expected to involve 2,325 teams, over 4,800 officials, and more than 65,000 participants. A substantial prize pool of Rs 1.35 crore, comprising 1,100 trophies and 12,300 medals, will be awarded to the winners. Individual awards and recognition for the best player in each match during team events are also part of the championship.
