Kojagiri Purnima 2024: A Moon Festival of Divine Blessings and Healing
Kojagiri Purnima, one of the most auspicious hindu festivals, celebrated on the full-moon night of October 16, 2024. Also known as Sharad Poonam, Raas Purnima, and Ashwin Purnima, this day marks a special occasion for devotees to worship Goddess Lakshmi and the Moon, seeking their blessings.
This year, the Purnima Tithi begins at 8:40 PM on October 16 and ends at 4:55 PM on October 17. Moonrise is expected at 5:05 PM on October 16. According to Vedic astrology, this day holds great significance, as it is the only night in the year when the moon shines with all sixteen "Kalas," representing ideal human qualities. Lord Krishna is believed to embody all sixteen Kalas, while Lord Ram possessed twelve, making this a time of immense spiritual power.
Kojagiri purnima is also known for its connection with healing. A unique tradition involves preparing "Kheer," a sweet dish, which is left under the moonlight to absorb its healing properties. Devotees fast throughout the day, offer prayers in the evening, and consume the blessed Kheer the next morning as prasad.
With its blend of devotion, fasting, and sacred rituals, Kojagiri Purnima remains a festival full of positive and auspicious energy, believed to bring prosperity and health to all those who observe it.
