Kotwali Police Apply Section 308 IPC in Mahal Hit-and-Run Case
Nagpur,India- The Kotwali Police have decided to charge the accused in the Mahal car crash incident with Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to the attempt to commit culpable homicide, according to police officials.
The incident, which occurred on Friday night, involved a hit-and-run that left several victims injured. The arrested accused have been identified as Sunny Surendra Chauhan (37) of Imambada, Anshul Vijay Dhale (24) of Jattarodi, and Akash Naresh Mehroliya (31) of Gawlipura, Kamptee.
Police investigations revealed that Sunny and Anshul have a criminal history with eight previous cases, including assault, registered against them. The victims of the incident include Wasim Shaikh, his wife Najnin, their one-and-a-half-month-old son Johan, and Sachin Suryabhan Subedar (46) from Shivaji Nagar.
The crash occurred when the accused, under the influence of alcohol and ganja, were traveling home in a Mahindra Logan car (MH-31/CP-6736). Sunny, who was driving at a high speed, first collided with a two-wheeler (MH-40/BR-4385) at Zenda Chowk in Mahal, injuring Najnin and Johan. Moments later, the car struck Sachin’s bike, causing him injuries as well.
Following the accident, the local citizens, enraged by the reckless behavior of the accused, assaulted them and vandalized their car. On Sunday, the police reconstructed the accident scene and interrogated the accused to trace the source of the alcohol and ganja.
