Leo Box Office Collection Update: Thalapathy Vijay's Film Targets Rs 450 Crore on Dussehra
Thalapathy Vijay's action-packed blockbuster "Leo," directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, achieved two significant milestones on its fifth day at the box office. The film reached the impressive 200 crore mark in India and a staggering 400 crore in global earnings, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. With Dussehra in full swing, the movie is poised for another earnings surge.
On Monday, "Leo" raked in an estimated 35 crore rupees across all languages in India, bringing its domestic total to 216 crore. The film started with a bang, earning 64 crore on its opening day, marking the second-highest Tamil-language film debut. It followed up with 35 crore on day two, 39 crore on day three, and 41 crore on day four, despite debuting on a Thursday.
Of the 35 crore collected on Monday, a substantial 26 crore came from Vijay's home state, Tamil Nadu. The film has also been breaking records in Kerala, earning 7 crore on Monday. Karnataka and the Andhra Pradesh/Telangana regions contributed 3 crore and 2.5 crore, respectively, while the rest of India generated 2.5 crore. Impressively, the Hindi version of "Leo" has earned over 10 crore, even without a multiplex release.
The film boasted a 72% daily occupancy rate across India on day five, with Chennai at 87% and Puducherry reaching a near-perfect 98%. "Leo" achieved 40% Telugu occupancy on day five and 12% Hindi occupancy. In the Telugu market, the film faced competition from local releases "Bhagavanth Kesari" and "Tiger Nageshwara Rao."
On a global scale, "Leo" surged past the 400 crore mark, making it the second-highest-grossing Tamil-language film of the year, trailing only Rajinikanth's "Jailer." Whether it can overtake "Jailer" in the long run remains to be seen. "Leo" is also the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, trailing "Jailer," "Gadar 2," "Pathaan," and "Jawan." Notably, it marks the pinnacle of Vijay's career, surpassing "Varisu." In a day or two, the film is expected to surpass Lokesh's "Vikram," featuring Kamal Haasan.
