Nagpur: A leopard sustained critical injuries after being hit by an unidentified car on National Highway 44 in the Ramtek forest area early Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 6 AM, and despite efforts to provide medical aid, the leopard succumbed to its injuries while being transported for treatment.
According to reports, the incident took place when a vehicle traveling on the Jabalpur-Nagpur road struck the leopard as it attempted to cross the highway. Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Kandri-Mansar Toll Plaza and officials from the Forest Department, Ramtek, rushed to the scene and attempted to save the injured animal. However, the leopard passed away near Wahitola before reaching Ramtek Hospital.
Forest Range Officer Anil Bhagat and other officials arrived at the accident site to assess the situation and initiate further administrative procedures. As part of their investigation, authorities also recovered debris from the vehicle involved in the collision.
This tragic incident highlights the growing concern over wildlife accidents on highways passing through forested regions, raising the need for increased measures to protect animals from such mishaps.
